1. Introduction

Raydex is a privacy-first document scanning application for Android devices. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and otherwise process information related to your use of the Raydex mobile application (the "App").

Our Privacy Commitment: We believe privacy is a fundamental right. Raydex is designed to minimize data collection. All your scanned documents, photos, and generated PDFs are processed and stored exclusively on your device. We do not upload your content to our servers or any third-party cloud service.

By downloading and using Raydex, you consent to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

We collect minimal information. Here is what we may collect or receive:

  • Device Identifiers (via Google Mobile Ads). If you grant consent for personalized advertising via the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) Consent Form, Google Mobile Ads may collect your Advertising ID (GAID), IP address, and device information (model, OS version, screen size) for ad serving and measurement.
  • Consent Preferences. We store your privacy consent choices locally on your device using local storage (SharedPreferences). These choices are not sent to our servers.
  • Crash Data (Future). In future versions, we may integrate Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymized crash reports. This will be disclosed before implementation.

No Personal Information: We do NOT collect your name, email, phone number, location, or any other personally identifiable information.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

To be completely transparent about our privacy practices, here is what Raydex does NOT collect:

  • Your Documents. Scanned documents, photos, images, extracted text, and PDFs are never uploaded to our servers. They remain exclusively on your device.
  • Location Data. We do not request, collect, or use your GPS location, cellular location, or any approximate location.
  • Personal Identifiers. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, username, address, or any other personal information.
  • Financial Information. We do not collect credit card numbers, bank account information, or any payment details.
  • App Usage Analytics. We do not track which features you use, how frequently you use them, or how long you spend in the App.
  • Browsing History. We do not track websites you visit outside the App.
  • Contacts, Calendars, or System Data. We do not access your device contacts, calendar events, installed apps, call history, text messages, or detailed system information.
  • Cookies or Tracking Technologies. The App does not use cookies, web beacons, or similar tracking technologies.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the limited information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Ad Serving. If you consent to personalized advertising, we allow Google Mobile Ads to use your Advertising ID and device information to serve targeted advertisements within the App.
  • Consent Management. We store your privacy and advertising consent choices to respect your preferences across app sessions.
  • Legal Compliance. We may use information to comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.
  • App Improvement (Future). With your explicit opt-in, we may collect anonymized crash data in future versions to identify and fix bugs.

We do not: Sell your data, share your data with third parties for marketing, use your data for profiling or automated decision-making, or retain your data longer than necessary.

5. Data Storage & Security

On-Device Storage. All your scanned documents, images, extracted text, PDFs, and app settings are stored locally on your device using:

  • Hive Database: Local on-device NoSQL database for document metadata and app data
  • Device File System: For storing scanned images and generated PDFs

Server Storage. We do NOT store your documents, images, or any user content on our servers. Your data never leaves your device.

Security Measures. We implement industry-standard security practices for the information we do collect (consent preferences):

  • Local storage uses device-level encryption
  • All network communications (ads, consent) use HTTPS/TLS encryption
  • No sensitive data is logged or transmitted in plain text
  • App uses ProGuard/R8 code obfuscation for compiled release builds

Limitation: While we implement reasonable security measures, no method of transmission or local storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for maintaining the security and regular backups of your device.

6. Third-Party Services

Raydex integrates the following third-party services, each with its own privacy policy:

  • Google ML Kit (Text Recognition). Performs OCR (optical character recognition) on your device. Images are processed locally and not sent to Google's servers for processing by default. However, diagnostic usage data may be collected if you enable it in device settings. Google Privacy Policy.
  • Google Mobile Ads (AdMob). Serves advertisements. May collect your Advertising ID, IP address, device info, and app usage metrics for ad targeting and measurement. Google Ads Technologies.
  • Google User Messaging Platform (UMP). Manages ad consent. Displays privacy choices and stores consent locally. UMP Documentation.

These third-party services may collect information about you in accordance with their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review their privacy practices at the links above.

7. Advertising & Google Mobile Ads

Consent-Based Advertising. Raydex displays advertisements to support free development. Before any ads are shown, you must provide consent through Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) Consent Form when you first open the App.

Personalized Advertising. If you grant consent, Google Mobile Ads may use your Advertising ID and other device data to show personalized ads based on your interests and app usage.

Non-Personalized Advertising. If you deny consent for personalized ads, you will still see ads, but they will be based only on the content within the App (contextual) and general device information.

Changing Your Preferences. You can change your ad consent preferences at any time:

  • Open Raydex > Settings > Privacy Settings > Manage Consent
  • Or through device settings: Settings > Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalization

Note: Opting out of personalized ads does not reduce ad frequency; ads will simply be less relevant to your interests.

8. Your Privacy Rights

You have the following rights regarding your information:

  • Right to Access. You have the right to request and receive a copy of all personal data we hold. Since all your data is stored locally on your device, it is directly accessible to you through the App.

  • Right to Data Portability. You can export your scanned documents as PDFs or images in standard formats to transfer them to other devices or services.
  • Right to Opt-Out. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Privacy Settings or device settings.

Raydex is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete such information and terminate the child's access to the App.

By using Raydex, you consent to the transfer of information to countries that may not have the same data protection laws as your country of residence. We take steps to ensure that international transfers comply with applicable data protection laws, including GDPR Standard Contractual Clauses when applicable.

Material changes will be communicated within the App via a notification, and continued use of Raydex following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
